AHS, CA.At the Brassington road junction near the Knockerdown one Barn Owl at 7:45am, from Stones Island this morning Great Northern Diver, Red Throated Diver, 2 Scaup, 1 Peregrine, Redpoll and Willow Tit plus all the usual waterfoul. The usual Barnacle Geese flock were in the fields where the pylons are , with Canada and Greylag Geese.17/01/2025

The Aythya hybrid again at sailing club. At least 104 Lapwing in total: 20 down, 30 S, 6 N and 48 flew in. 1 Woodcock at Millfields early morning. Adult Peregrine over the main carpark. Simon RoddisAfternoon visit: the Great Northern and Red-throated Divers and the 2 immature male Scaup all visible from Stones island, although much better views of the Red-throat from Millfields (it is now the equal longest stayer ever at the res.). 33 Barnacle Geese. 38 Cormorant. 62 Collared Doves (site record) flew S down the east side, appeared to come from the Fishtail area, perhaps flushed from a farmyard by a Red Kite.06/01/2024

2017-10-17A Water Pipit was in front of the WLC at 1025-1030 before flying off with a Meadow Pipit. Must be a good chance it's still somewhere along the 8 miles of suitable shoreline! 2017-10-16The drake Green-winged Teal was on Horseshoe island at 11:45 before being flushed, and a drake Common Scoter was out in the middle of the res. A bit of movement despite the murk, mostly SW: 685 Starlings, 50 Redwing, 140 Woodpigeon, 4 Skylark, 1 Brambling, 9 Redpoll. 2017-10-15The drake Green-winged Teal was at the WLC late morning, along with a Chiffchaff and female Mandarin. Birds moving through included 500 Redwing, 80 Starling, 40 Siskin and 13 Brambling, most of them SW over the Hopton end between 0700 and 0900. Female Red-crested Pochard. 2 juvenile Ruff at Sheepwash. Also a Redshank, Snipe, up to 9 Ringed Plover and 6 Dunlin. 2 adult Yellow-legged Gulls, adult Herring Gull and 5 Common Gulls. 2017-10-072 Scaup were in Brown Ale Bay (Paul Stanley Hide). A female and 1st winter male. The first record this year. Also 15 Pintail, 16 Shoveler spread around the whole site, 39 Gadwall, 153 Wigeon, Red-crested Pochard, 7 Skylarks over, 7 Buzzards and 2 Sparrowhawks over Hall/Middle Woods and 2 Ravens. Teal numbers seemed down on recent days, although the Green winged Teal was reported at the Wildlife Centre. Also reported today (07/10) from Sheepwash.Dave Newcombe/Chris Brown
2017-10-04Green winged Teal still at Sheepwash at 17.30. It was initially found by Richard Lowe on Sunday evening and was seen on 02/10 at Sheepwash/Paul Stanley. At Millfields yesterday and back at Sheepwash today. There are literally 100's of Teal at Sheepwash but with a bit of perseverance it can easily be picked out from the Eurasian Teal. Also at Sheepwash was a juvenile Little Stint (D Sneap). Whole site covered: 47 Mute Swans, 1019 Canada Geese, 238 Greylag Geese, Pink-footed Geese (thanks to Chris for counting the Geese), 9 Little Egrets, 522 Teal, 236 Wigeon, 58 Gadwall, 17 Shoveler (site record), 23 Pintail all at Sheepwash (site record is 28 so getting closer!), 130 Pochard, 3 female Red-crested Pochard, 4 Ringed Plover and adult Yellow-legged Gull. 2017-09-1506:30-08:30hr : 11 Little Egrets flew into Sheepwash at first light, 4 Shoveler and 2 Ringed Plover there also. Stones Island a Ruff, 7 Ringed Plover, Golden Plover and Curlew heard but not seen. Meadow Pipits moving throughout also Skylark heard. Clive Ashton
2017-09-14Looked for the Grey Phal until dusk with no joy. However, at least 6000 Lesser Black-backs came into roost along with 2 Y-l Gull, 1 Common Sand was at the WLC, and 40 Swallows flew over Stones.Simon Roddis

2017-09-14Other sightings apart from the Phalarope include: 53 Mute Swans including cygnets, 30 Barnacle Geese, 2 Grey Herons, 5 Little Egrets, 29 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, 7 Shoveler, 12 Gadwall, 206 Teal, 2 Red-crested Pochard, juv male Peregrine, Sparrowhawk, 9 Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Snipe, adult Yellow-legged Gull, c100 Pied Wagtails, 18 Meadow Pipits, Sand Martin, 6 Chiffchaff with 3 in song, 3 Goldcrest, c150 Goldfinch on Stones Island, and a Siskin over Sheepwash. 2017-09-14Alan Stewardson and myself found a 1st winter Grey Phalarope at Sheepwash yesterday. We first picked it up on the spit at 15.50. We watched it for about 10 minutes before it flew towards Paul Stanley Hide. After Alan had gone it reappeared at Sheepwash c17.00 and then flew towards Lane End but wasn't seen again. Adult Y-l Gull. 10 Stock Dove, again all moving S or SW. 2 Kingfisher. 4 Raven. 300 Jackdaw on the dam wall at first light. 2 Sand Martin. c70 Swallow, including 40 on the dam wall first thing. Steady movement of Meadow Pipits, 100+ during the morning. 1 Siskin. 1 Redstart between WLC and Shiningford (AHS). Three other birders reported an Osprey over Stones around 12:00.Simon Roddis
