The GNDiver and both immature drake Scaup were off Stones and the Red-throated Diver finally appeared between Stones and Millfields. AHS, CA.At the Brassington road junction near the Knockerdown one Barn Owl at 7:45am, from Stones Island this morning Great Northern Diver, Red Throated Diver, 2 Scaup, 1 Peregrine, Redpoll and Willow Tit plus all the usual waterfoul. The usual Barnacle Geese flock were in the fields where the pylons are , with Canada and Greylag Geese.17/01/2025

The Aythya hybrid again at sailing club. At least 104 Lapwing in total: 20 down, 30 S, 6 N and 48 flew in. 1 Woodcock at Millfields early morning. Adult Peregrine over the main carpark. The Great Northern and Red-throated Divers and the 2 Scaup still from Stones island. 49 Whooper Swans: 31 dropped in from the east at 11:35 while another 18 kept going W. 92 Pink-feet flew W and another 11 E. 33 Barnacle Geese. 7 Shoveler (5m,2f). 56 Teal around Stones/WLC. The regular Aythya hybrid and 43 Lapwing at sailing club. 62 GCGrebe from Stones. Kingfisher from WLC and later from Stones. 3 Fieldfare and a Meadow Pipit over Stones.11/01/2025

Simon RoddisAfternoon visit: the Great Northern and Red-throated Divers and the 2 immature male Scaup all visible from Stones island, although much better views of the Red-throat from Millfields (it is now the equal longest stayer ever at the res.). 33 Barnacle Geese. 38 Cormorant. 62 Collared Doves (site record) flew S down the east side, appeared to come from the Fishtail area, perhaps flushed from a farmyard by a Red Kite.06/01/2024

2020-07-21The July that keeps on giving. A Great White Egret was initially on the shore between Sheepwash and Lane End at 06:00 and moved around a bit before departing SE at 06:35. Then a juvenile Black-necked Grebe from Stones island looking towards Millfields, 08:15-08:45 at least. 42 Mute Swan. c25 Swift. 55 Lapwing. 1 juv LRP. 2 Common Sandpiper. Whimbrel through early morning. 2 1st-summer Common Gulls. 2 adult Yellow-legged Gull. 1 Little Egret. 2020-07-20Quite morning birdwise on Stones Island this morning so I spent most of my time at Warbler corner and saw Chiffchaff,Willow Warbler, Blackcap,Common Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Sedge Warbler also heard Song thrush yet again mimicking Greenshank,moving to WLC Creek we managed to add Lesser Whitethroat to the Warbler list,there were also three juvenile Redstarts feeding in the bushes,1 Grey Wagtail and a Little Egret.Alan Stewardson

The Black-tailed Godwit still on Watersports island, 2 Common Sand (dam wall and Flat Island), an adult Common Tern off Stones and a 2nd-summer Yellow-legged Gull. New broods of Gadwall (5 and 5) in WLC creek; GCGrebe - 1 at Millfields; Coot - 2 and 1 at Millfields, 1 at Sailing Club; Mallard, 2 and 1 around Stones; Tufted, 8 in WLC creek; Moorhen, 3 in WLC creek. The yellow-and-blue colour-ringed Oystercatcher has 3 chicks on Flat Island. Family party of Spotted Flycatcher, 2 adults and 2 juvs, at the entrance to Millfields carpark. Little Egret on Watersports island. c10 Swallows around Hopton reedbed early morning, presumably having roosted there. 6 Reed Warbler, including a pair feeding young in Brown Ale Bay. Lesser Whitethroat with food on Stones island and another still singing in WLC creek. Juv Redstart and Song Thrush with food at Hopton end. Female Teal at WLC. c30 Swift, mostly moving S. 2 Curlew S. 4 Raven. 20+ Sand Martin in Brown Ale Bay. Fledged Blackcaps (3+ juvs) in Shingingford creek and Goldcrests (3 juvs) in WLC creek. 2020-06-17A male Shoveler on Horseshoe island is new, and the male Pochard is still there. 21 Gadwall. The single large Redshank and Oystercatcher chicks on Horseshoe and Millfields islands have now both made it to the main shoreline. Adult Yellow-legged Gull again. Kingfisher at Penn Carr. 25 Mute Swan. 1 Curlew. c50 Swift, 50 House and 25 Sand Martin. Willow Tits with fledged young at Penn Carr. 2 Reed Warbler singing in WLC creek and 2 more in Brown Ale Bay. 2020-06-10An Avocet was on Millfields island 06:55 to 08:45 at least, then presumably the same bird flew north up the reservoir at 09:20 and finally seen in flight again at 10:00 when it appeared to depart to the north. 21 Mute Swan. 172 young Black-headed Gulls counted on Millfields island, a small number now flying, and presumably more on the other side of the island. Lapwing sitting on Watersports island. 3 pairs of Sedge Warbler with food on Stones island. Reed Warbler singing on Stones. Willow Warbler with food at the top of WLC creek.
