Simon Roddis, Clive AshtonThe GN and Red-throated Divers were both off Stones island this morning, and the 2 Greater Scaup below Hall Wood, but we couldn't find the Lesser Scaup or Ring-necked Duck. There has been quite a clear-out of wildfowl in recent days so perhaps they've gone. A Lesser Black-backed x Ring-billed Gull hybrid, which presumably roosted and is very likely the one that has been seen here before, was at sailing club early morning. 12 Curlew and a Kingfisher there at the same time. c10 Snipe on Horseshoe island. 2+ Chiffchaffs on/around Stones.28/02/2025

Little Egret feeding in the fields above Fishtail Creek, had to look twice to make sure it wasn't Cattle. About 20 Buzzards in the air late morning. Kingfisher at sailing club. The Lesser and Greater Scaup, the Ring-necked Duck and both GN and Red-throated Divers still present. 2020-07-22In the WLC creek/fields area this morning, 10 Spotted Flycatchers, a mix of adults and juvs, perhaps 2 family parties?; 6 Redstarts; 4+ Lesser Whitethroat including a family party of at least 3 birds (and another one at Millfields). 40 Mute Swan. 1 Wigeon. 13 Swift. 3 Collared Dove at Hopton end. 9 Moorhen. 12 Little Grebe. 5 Oystercatcher. 76 Lapwing. 1 Common Sand. 2 ad Yellow-legged Gull. 7 Grey Heron. 6 Little Egret, including 4 which flew into Millfields at 06:55 but flew out again about 20 minutes later. 30 Sand Martin and 15 House Martin, mostly over the WLC area. 7 Sedge Warbler (6 on Stones). 2020-07-21The July that keeps on giving. A Great White Egret was initially on the shore between Sheepwash and Lane End at 06:00 and moved around a bit before departing SE at 06:35. Then a juvenile Black-necked Grebe from Stones island looking towards Millfields, 08:15-08:45 at least. 42 Mute Swan. c25 Swift. 55 Lapwing. 1 juv LRP. 2 Common Sandpiper. Whimbrel through early morning. 2 1st-summer Common Gulls. 2 adult Yellow-legged Gull. 1 Little Egret. 2020-07-20Quite morning birdwise on Stones Island this morning so I spent most of my time at Warbler corner and saw Chiffchaff,Willow Warbler, Blackcap,Common Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Sedge Warbler also heard Song thrush yet again mimicking Greenshank,moving to WLC Creek we managed to add Lesser Whitethroat to the Warbler list,there were also three juvenile Redstarts feeding in the bushes,1 Grey Wagtail and a Little Egret.Alan Stewardson

2020-07-08This morning's highlight was a juvenile Mediterranean Gull which flew into Horseshoe island at 07:30 and flew again at 08:00. 29 Mute Swan. New brood of 5 Tufted at Millfields. 7 Oystercatcher. 3 Redshank flew in from the south. 3 Common Sand. The adult Yellow-legged Gull again. 2 Little Egret. New broods of Gadwall (5 and 5) in WLC creek; GCGrebe - 1 at Millfields; Coot - 2 and 1 at Millfields, 1 at Sailing Club; Mallard, 2 and 1 around Stones; Tufted, 8 in WLC creek; Moorhen, 3 in WLC creek. The yellow-and-blue colour-ringed Oystercatcher has 3 chicks on Flat Island. Family party of Spotted Flycatcher, 2 adults and 2 juvs, at the entrance to Millfields carpark. Juv Redstart in Millfields viewing area and a female in WLC creek. Adult and juv Lesser Whitethroat in WLC creek.
