Simon Roddis, Clive AshtonThe GN and Red-throated Divers were both off Stones island this morning, and the 2 Greater Scaup below Hall Wood, but we couldn't find the Lesser Scaup or Ring-necked Duck. There has been quite a clear-out of wildfowl in recent days so perhaps they've gone. A Lesser Black-backed x Ring-billed Gull hybrid, which presumably roosted and is very likely the one that has been seen here before, was at sailing club early morning. 12 Curlew and a Kingfisher there at the same time. c10 Snipe on Horseshoe island. 2+ Chiffchaffs on/around Stones.28/02/2025

Little Egret feeding in the fields above Fishtail Creek, had to look twice to make sure it wasn't Cattle. About 20 Buzzards in the air late morning. Kingfisher at sailing club. Simon RoddisA new bird to add to the cast list today: a winter-plumage Black-necked Grebe was off the south end of Stones island 08:30-08:45. The Lesser and Greater Scaup, the Ring-necked Duck and both GN and Red-throated Divers still present. In the gull roost, c5000 BhGs, 1700 Commons, 250 Lesser Black-backs, 18 Herring Gull (11 down, 7 over), 1 ad Y-l GUll, 1 ad GBbG. 23 Cormorant. At Hopton end at dusk, 4 Tawny Owl calling, 3 Woodcock, 1 Water Rail, and at least 3 Common Snipe came out of the reedbed.Simon Roddis

A site record 17 Ravens flew over the dam wall at 0855; 15 of them kept going SW, the other 2 appeared to be a local pair who flew up to check them out and then returned to Blackwall plantation. Male Shoveler. 7 Goosander. 2 Grey Herons. Male and female Kestrel at Millfields. 900 Lapwing. At least 5 Ruff. 3 Redshank. 10 Common Snipe. Imm Y-l Gull. Small NE movement of Woodpigeons, 60 in total. 1 Skylark over. Total of 16 Willow Tits (7 Millfields, 3 Stones, 1 WLC, 2 Sheepwash, 2 Paul Stanley, 1 Hopton). 2017-12-16Two winter-plumage Black-necked Grebes were in front of Sailing Club late morning, at first diving very actively and then drifting around Stones towards the back of Sailing Club island. Later in the afternoon they were over at Millfields. Quite a decent gull roost: 1000 Common Gulls, 100 Lesser Black-backs, 24 Herrings, 1 GBbG, c3000 BhGulls by 4pm.Simon Roddis
