Simon Roddis, Clive AshtonThe GN and Red-throated Divers were both off Stones island this morning, and the 2 Greater Scaup below Hall Wood, but we couldn't find the Lesser Scaup or Ring-necked Duck. There has been quite a clear-out of wildfowl in recent days so perhaps they've gone. A Lesser Black-backed x Ring-billed Gull hybrid, which presumably roosted and is very likely the one that has been seen here before, was at sailing club early morning. 12 Curlew and a Kingfisher there at the same time. c10 Snipe on Horseshoe island. 2+ Chiffchaffs on/around Stones.28/02/2025

2014-07-11A colour ringed Great White Egret flew past Sheepwash at c10.50hrs heading towards Hopton End. It spent time on both Flat Island and Big Island for a while before flying high to the NE. It was then attacked by a Peregrine before dropping back down on to Big Island. It was later seen from Sheepwash by other observers before being flushed by a boat and lost to view. This is the 4th record for Carsington after previous records in 2008, 2012 & 2013. 2014-07-09A colour ringed Great White Egret on site today (8/07/14). It flew past Sheepwash at c10.50hrs and settled at the northern end of the res spending time on both Big Island and Flat Island. At one point it looked it was leaving high NE before bizarrely being attacked by a Peregrine. It decided to drop back down and settle on Big Island for a while. It was later seen from Sheepwash by other observers but there was no further sign by early evening after evidently being flushed by a fishing boat. Pair of Lapwings with 3 chicks on Big Island. 3 LRP, Common Sandpiper, Tawny Owl calling in Hall Wood. Male Redstart singing near Shiningford Farm. 1st summer Common Gull. Warblers counted between Penn Carr and Warrington Knob (via Sheepwash). 32 Blackcaps, 19 Willow Warblers, 28 Chiffchaffs, 15 Garden Warblers, 9 Whitethroats, 2 Sedge Warblers. 2 Reed Warblers-1 in Hopton Reed bed and another on the other side of the path to the reed bed in conservation area. 5 Swallows and a Raven.
