Simon Roddis, Clive AshtonThe GN and Red-throated Divers were both off Stones island this morning, and the 2 Greater Scaup below Hall Wood, but we couldn't find the Lesser Scaup or Ring-necked Duck. There has been quite a clear-out of wildfowl in recent days so perhaps they've gone. A Lesser Black-backed x Ring-billed Gull hybrid, which presumably roosted and is very likely the one that has been seen here before, was at sailing club early morning. 12 Curlew and a Kingfisher there at the same time. c10 Snipe on Horseshoe island. 2+ Chiffchaffs on/around Stones.28/02/2025

Little Egret feeding in the fields above Fishtail Creek, had to look twice to make sure it wasn't Cattle. About 20 Buzzards in the air late morning. Kingfisher at sailing club. The Lesser and Greater Scaup, the Ring-necked Duck and both GN and Red-throated Divers still present. 2017-10-17A Water Pipit was in front of the WLC at 1025-1030 before flying off with a Meadow Pipit. Must be a good chance it's still somewhere along the 8 miles of suitable shoreline! Birds moving through included 500 Redwing, 80 Starling, 40 Siskin and 13 Brambling, most of them SW over the Hopton end between 0700 and 0900. 2017-10-072 Scaup were in Brown Ale Bay (Paul Stanley Hide). A female and 1st winter male. The first record this year. Also 15 Pintail, 16 Shoveler spread around the whole site, 39 Gadwall, 153 Wigeon, Red-crested Pochard, 7 Skylarks over, 7 Buzzards and 2 Sparrowhawks over Hall/Middle Woods and 2 Ravens. 2017-10-04Green winged Teal still at Sheepwash at 17.30. It was initially found by Richard Lowe on Sunday evening and was seen on 02/10 at Sheepwash/Paul Stanley. At Millfields yesterday and back at Sheepwash today. There are literally 100's of Teal at Sheepwash but with a bit of perseverance it can easily be picked out from the Eurasian Teal. Also at Sheepwash was a juvenile Little Stint (D Sneap). Whole site covered: 47 Mute Swans, 1019 Canada Geese, 238 Greylag Geese, Pink-footed Geese (thanks to Chris for counting the Geese), 9 Little Egrets, 522 Teal, 236 Wigeon, 58 Gadwall, 17 Shoveler (site record), 23 Pintail all at Sheepwash (site record is 28 so getting closer!), 130 Pochard, 3 female Red-crested Pochard, 4 Ringed Plover and adult Yellow-legged Gull. 2017-09-14Alan Stewardson and myself found a 1st winter Grey Phalarope at Sheepwash yesterday. We first picked it up on the spit at 15.50. We watched it for about 10 minutes before it flew towards Paul Stanley Hide. After Alan had gone it reappeared at Sheepwash c17.00 and then flew towards Lane End but wasn't seen again.
