2019-10-04A good morning! Roger found a winter-plumage Slavonian Grebe between Watersports and Horseshoe islands. Although elusive at times as it dived frequently, it then showed well off Stones island. While watching the grebe at Watersports, I saw a small wader fly off the water and go behind Horseshoe island. Suspecting that it may be a phalarope, I went round to the WLC and there it was, a juvenile Grey Phalarope feeding on the water. At times it walked along the shore of Horseshoe island and we last saw it there at about 09:00. And the first Redwings of the autumn flew through: a total of 650 SW over WLC creek. In addition, 1 Shoveler, 14 Gadwall, 7 Wigeon, 66 Pochard, 5 Common Gull, 7 Chiffchaff, and c100 Goldfinch on Shiningford island.Simon Roddis, Roger Carrington
