| SJR, CA, AHS, RPJ, AMD | The welcome change in the weather brought about a bit of a change, with a handful of waders and the first Reed Warbler singing in Hopton reedbed. A probable total of 5 Black-tailed Godwits (3+2) were found by Clive and Alan, and a Common Ringed Plover, 2 Common Sandpipers and a Dunlin were on sailing club shore late morning. Wildfowl included a drake Shoveler, female Teal, 2 female Red-crested and at least 3 Common Pochard. The GNDiver still, looking very nice indeed. c100 Sand Martins. A beautiful pair of adult Mediterranean Gulls flew in over Stones island at 10:15 and settled on Horseshoe island, where they happily stayed until 11:00 when a boat got too close to the island and put all the gulls up. Aaarrgh! Looked like a small northerly movement of Black-headed and Lesser Black-backed Gulls too. 2 female Red-crested Pochard at Millfields. | 2009-10-28 | A Peregrine flew through just before 11.00, c40 Redwings and several Fieldfare around wildlife centre creek, 15+ Siskin including several Lesser Redpolls, 10+ Meadow Pipits, 2 Skylarks, 2 Kingfishers, Raven, 2 Buzzards, 3 Snipe and a Grey Wagtail. At around 16.00 many of the Gulls and Wildfowl took to the air in what seemed to be a mass panic. Something had clearly upset them but we never found out what. As I drove the Land Rover around the track, they alighted and moved into the trees in Riddings Farm, just over the fence. | 2009-10-15 | Tuesday 13th Oct 2009 Mediterranean Gull - 1 adult Yellow-legged Gull - 1 adult The gulls formed in two flocks pre-roost, one of which parked themselves between the spit and the far bank, affording good views from the Sheepwash hide. I picked up the Med Gull towards 5.45 (including a short view in flight) and the Yellow-legged Gull shortly after and towards 6.15 they drifted towards the middle of the reservoir with the other gulls. | Paul Mollatt |

| 2009-10-12 | Nice sunny day. Birds of note: Common Buzzard (1) and Common Sandpiper (1) - Horseshoe Island. Dragonflies: Common Hawker; Common Darter (pr) - this species is on the wing until mid-November. Butterfly: Speckled Wood only. Plants: Stunted plants by the edge of Stones Island. Area covered in water until relatively recently. Drying out and recent sunshine has brought Brooklime (deep blue), Water forget-me-not (pale blue) and Redshank (pink) into flower. Very late flowering Lesser Periwinkle (dark blue) found elsewhere. Probably seeds had been dormant, then disturbed in late summer.
