Weather and season

JANUARY: The first ten days of the month were cold but largely dry. There were a number of frosts overnight and light snow fell on 6th and 7th. The lowest local overnight temperature recorded in this period was minus 10ºC at Woodford, near Macclesfield, on the 5th. There was the occasional frost in the second half of the month and on the 19th there were some snow showers but it did not settle. Daytime temperatures for the month ranged from -1ºC to 10ºC. Rainfall was close to normal and sunshine above normal. It was the sunniest January since 2003.
