Welcome to the Carsington Bird Club website!
Bird of the Month (September) (Recurvirostra avosetta) |
A distinctively-patterned black and white wader with a long up-curved beak. It is the emblem of the RSPB and symbolises the bird protection movement in the UK more than any other species. Its return in the 1940s and subsequent increase in numbers represents one of the most successful conservation and protection projects. |

Zino's Petrel Pterodroma madeira is Europe's rarest seabird and one of the rarest birds in the world, nesting only on a few mountain ledges in the rugged central massif of Madeira island. BirdLife International and SPEA (Birdlife in Portugal) urgently need funds to carry out emergency conservation work needed before the winter sets in. |

Poison feared in death of buzzards POLICE have launched an investigation after six buzzards were found dead. Officers suspect the birds were poisoned and are working with the RSPB and Natural England as part of their investigation. On April 7, a farmer found four dead buzzards north of Kirk Ireton. They were next to remains of a pheasant, believed to have been poisoned bait. Police are investigating whether the incident is linked to the discovery of two dead buzzards in Jebbs Lane, Idridgehay on February 22, which were poisoned. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0345 123 3333. |
