Carsington Water was closed in late March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and while the reservoir remains closed for the time being, Severn Trent Water has announced its aim to reopen its Midlands region sites to the public in the near future following the government’s modified advice on travel and exercise.

Indeed, several of its smaller sites are already open once again to visitors, while Carsington is among a list of half a dozen larger sites that the company intends to open in early June.  Social distancing will remain a priority and as a result certain limitations and restrictions may well be exercised, with retail and catering outlets remaining closed,  and other measures such as sanitiser stations at car parks and toilets.

The imminent reopening of the site is clearly good news for lovers of wildlife and birders in particular, but if visiting in the coming weeks and months we simply must observe any new rules and restrictions and support Severn Trent in the safe management of the Carsington site.
